Don't be cruel, animals rule!

Hello everyone! Last time I wrote about animal testing, and today I wanted to talk about people having pets and then not looking after them properly, or even being cruel to them.  Sometimes people think they're being nice to let an animal live in their home, but actually they might not be looking after the animal properly. For example not giving it enough exercise, or toys, so its bored all the time, which can lead to bad habits. Sometimes they might not have enough money for an animal at all, but they still have one.  Then there's people who are really cruel. Some people put hats on their pets to take photos to get likes on social media. Some people hurt their animals on purpose. There's also some puppy breeders who just want to make money, and end up not thinking about the dogs health. How to help: If you see anyone doing anything cruel to an animal, you should speak up. Even if you get it wrong, at least you have tried. If you have any pets at home, make sure you are ...

Save our furry friends! This is how it ends :(

Hello everyone, As you probably know, this month's cause is animal cruelty and today we're going to be looking into animal testing.  Millions of animals are poisoned, blinded, and killed each year in cruel experiments  so that companies can test their products such as medicines and cosmetics.  Since 1998 there has been a ban against testing beauty products and cosmetics on animals. BUT did you know that they've started letting a few companies test cosmetics on animals all over again?  This is terrible - because we've already got millions of cosmetic products, and we don't need anymore, and we don't need them to be tested on animals. It's not fair on the animals, because if the animals could speak, then they would be screaming 'no!'. Animals don't do this to us - so why are we doing it to them? And how is their life worth any less than human lives? What can we do to help? Instead of buying cosmetics, like lip balm or skincare, you can buy a '...

Next Month's Cause

Hi, next months cause is gonna be... (intense drum roll).... Animal cruelty! We will learn about what unfair things humans are doing to innocent animals, and how we can help!  And I just made a dog toy ( for a friend's dog ), which you might think is nothing to do with climate change, but actually I used recycled materials. The link is  here  if you want to give it a try. It says use fleece, but I used some old tights. Thanks, Meadow Joy xxx

My home is melting!

Image
Hi everyone, sorry I have been a bit quiet but I've been on holiday. I'm now back home and wanted to do another blog post about climate change. This one is about one particular biome that I think we should do more to preserve. (A biome is a habitat, an area with a similar climate and landscape. There's lots of different types. Today we'll be looking into the ice biome).  What human processes are affecting the ice biome? Humans burning oil and mining all around the world releases greenhouse gas into the air, which makes the whole atmosphere hotter. The heat melts the ice in the ice biome. The water from the ice goes into the sea, which means there is more water, so the sea levels rise, and there's less land.  (Not fun) fact: If emissions continue to rise unchecked, the Arctic could be ice-free in the summer by 2040. But this is all going on outside the biome. There's also stuff going on inside the biome that damages it. For example - humans building roads and v...

See you soon!

Hi, just saying, I'm going on holiday, so I won't post for a while. Happy Easter holidays, Meadow Joy xxx

Do not waste, it's a disgrace!

Hello everybody! Today we're going to be looking at some different ways we are polluting the planet. I've done some research and this is what I've found.  Did you know?  About 70% of the food we bin is still absolutely fine to eat! Up to 10% of all the greenhouse gas we produce is generated by food loss and waste. This is  five times more than what we produce through flying planes A running tap wastes roughly 6 litres per minute Some of the things that humans are wasting that causes climate change include: Wasting food - food takes a lot of energy to make, and sometimes its made in factories, or flown across the world, so this is definitely not good for the planet. Wasting water - similar to food, it takes a lot of processing and energy to make the water clean and get it to your tap, so when we waste water, we're wasting all of that.  Wasting energy - this is like when you leave the heating on when you don't need it, or leave the lights on when there's nobody in...

Climate change is not a lie! Do not let our planet die!

Hi everybody! In this post we're going to be talking about climate change (April's cause).  Did you know: Air pollution kills 9 million people every year! We are losing 1.2 trillion tons of ice every year - that's almost the same weight as everything man-made on earth.. If we do something about it, it is possible to reverse some of the effects of global warming Some of the things humans are doing that is causing climate change are: Using plastic, because it takes hundreds and thousands of years to decompose, and if it gets into the ocean then sea life eats it, thinking its food, and then they get sick. Sometimes humans eat the fish, and the humans get ill too.  Mining for oil and burning coal, because it releases carbon dioxide, and this is like a big blanket over the earth, making it hotter, which then melts the ice, which then makes the sea levels rise.  Our 'fast fashion' lifestyles - like when some people buy one outfit for one occasion, and clothes aren't m...
