Do not waste, it's a disgrace!
Hello everybody! Today we're going to be looking at some different ways we are polluting the planet. I've done some research and this is what I've found.
Did you know?
- About 70% of the food we bin is still absolutely fine to eat!
- Up to 10% of all the greenhouse gas we produce is generated by food loss and waste. This is five times more than what we produce through flying planes
- A running tap wastes roughly 6 litres per minute
Some of the things that humans are wasting that causes climate change include:
- Wasting food - food takes a lot of energy to make, and sometimes its made in factories, or flown across the world, so this is definitely not good for the planet.
- Wasting water - similar to food, it takes a lot of processing and energy to make the water clean and get it to your tap, so when we waste water, we're wasting all of that.
- Wasting energy - this is like when you leave the heating on when you don't need it, or leave the lights on when there's nobody in the room.
How you can help - here are some ideas!
- Get a water butt ( a container to collect rain) to collect rainwater, to water your plants with, or even pipe it into your toilet flush! If you don't have a water butt, you could make a small rain catcher to water one plant with.
- Plan out your meals so that when you go shopping you only buy what you need and you don't end up wasting much. Try not to get really big packs of things if you know you're not going to have all of it - instead just get a smaller pack. Look out for good deals, but if its buy one get one free (even if its a good deal), don't buy it if you think you probably won't eat it.
- Whenever you leave a room, turn the lights off if there's no-one in there. Don't leave any lamps or anything electrical on if you're not using it or don't need it. Only have heating on when you need it - putting on a few extra jumpers isn't so bad, and could help save the planet if we all did it.
Thank you - let me know if you've tried any of this in the comments below...

Meadow Joy you are so wise, this is so true. I'll follow your advice and do what is recommended. Good luck on changing the world for the better.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!😊
DeleteI’ve just started to try to grow my own tomatoes and I’ll definitely look into getting a water butt to help save water when I’m watering my plants - thanks for the ideas!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the tomatoes! You're welcome 🙂
DeleteThese are great ideas. Another one is, if you have a tumble dryer, try not to use it unless you really have to, as it uses up energy. Drying your clothes in the sunshine uses free solar energy!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea, thanks!
